Winning Model: Maggie The 8-Foot Waving Giant
After seeing the K'NEX Giant Builds on the K'NEX website, I thought it would be cool to try to do my own giant build. My Bat Mitzvah is coming up in May and my Bat Mitzvah party celebration is going to be themed around K'NEX. So it seemed like a good idea to build a waving K'NEX giant to greet guests as they come to my Bat Mitzvah celebration.

When did you start building with K'NEX?
I started building with K'NEX when I was 3 or 4 years old.

What was your most challenging K'NEX creation?
My most challenging K'NEX creation was Maggie the 8 Foot Waving Giant. This project took me about 40 to 50 hours to build and it had almost 20,000 pieces. When I was building it, I ran into a weight problem when I tried to attach the dress to the body frame. Parts of the frame started to snap apart. I had to quickly take off the shirt, take the dress off and add lots of extra support inside the body. With the added bracing, Maggie was able to support the weight of the shirt and dress. The model was so tall that I needed to use a ladder to attach the head to the rest of the body.

Where did you come up with the idea for your winning model?
After seeing the K'NEX Giant builds on the K'NEX web site, I thought it would be cool to try to do my own giant build.

Do you have a favorite past K'NEXpert, if so who?
No, I do not have a specific favorite past K'NEXpert. They are all very good.

How many siblings do you have? What are their age(s) and gender?
I have 2 older sisters. Sarah is 14 and Julianne is 17.

Do they build with K'NEX too? Do you build models together?
When Julianne was younger she used to build with K'NEX. Now, my sister Sarah sometimes helps me with large K'NEX projects.

What are your favorite hobbies (besides building with K'NEX)?
In addition to K'NEX, my hobbies include photography, beading, and other arts and crafts.

What is your favorite subject in school?
My favorite subject in school is Math.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
When I grow up, I would love to be a K'NEX designer or a teacher.

What has been the coolest part about being a 2009 K'NEXpert?
So far, the coolest part of being a 2009 K'NEXpert has been going to the award ceremony in New York City. It was great to meet the team from K'NEX and to meet the other K'NEXperts from all around the country. I am also looking forward to visiting the K'NEX headquarters and seeing the design team.
