Talcott Mountain Academy - 4th Grade

Teacher: Michelle Koscak
Category: Crank It Up!

Suite 1's Automation
Suite 1's automation is a machine that draws circles and lines. The circle mechanism has three gears, two being large and one being smaller. We used three gears instead of using just two gears because upon turning the crank, a big gear then meshes with the small gear, which has faster revolutions. The small gear then hits the other big gear. The big gear is attached to the pencil, so when the big gear turns, the pencil turns. That movement creates a circle. At the same time, the line is in progress. The line motion is triggered by a four-jointed mechanism. That pulls up a bar, which has four wheels as stabilizers. It also contains the marker. That pulling motion creates a line.
